We will ensure that all children are able to sleep whenever they require it, in a safe environment.
Monitoring Sleeping or Resting Children
Statement of Principle
Procedure
Children attending this Centre will be able to go to bed at any time during the day that they require. Individual routines will be discussed with parents at enrolment and regularly throughout their stay with us.
Infants Area
If there are three or more children in the Sleep room a staff member will remain with them. This person will settle children off to sleep, check sleeping children regularly and ensure resting children are happy.
If there are less than three children in the Sleep room a staff member will ensure that the children settle down to sleep before leaving them in the room. A staff member will regularly check the children at around five minute intervals.
A Baby Monitor will be turned on whenever there are children in the Sleep room, attended by a staff member or not.
Toddlers/Kindy Area
If a child needs to sleep prior to the ‘Rest Time’ (which will be after lunch), they will either be offered a bed in the Sleep room or in the Under Two Sleep room. A staff member will ensure that the child is settled before leaving them, and the baby monitor will be switched on.
For the ‘Rest Time’ a staff member will settle children off to sleep, check sleeping children regularly and ensure resting children are happy. When all children are settled down to sleep, the staff member may leave the room but will regularly check the children at around five minute intervals.
A Baby Monitor will be turned on whenever there are children in the sleep room, attended by a staff member or not.
