Excursions

Motor Vehicles

  • Each child will be restrained in an approved Child Restraint when travelling in a vehicle as per Land Transport Safety Authority Regulation March 1995. 
  • There must be at least two adults in any motor vehicle carrying more than three children.
  • Motor vehicles must have a current Warrant of Fitness and be registered.  The driver is to have a full Drivers License.
  • The driver is to adhere to all traffic regulations at all times.
  • The Centre is to have written permission from the parents/ caregivers of the children before travelling begins. 
  • A ‘Person Responsible’ must check seat belts before departure from the centre and before returning to the centre.
  • Staff ratios are as per normal ratios, though a higher adult to child ratio may be needed depending on the excursion.  The adult ratio must be written on the parent permission form.  The adult ratio may include parents or other adults attending the excursion.  The staff member organising the excursion will decide the ratio in discussion with the supervisor.

Buses

  • Children will wear a seatbelt if the bus has seatbelts; otherwise the children will simply be required to sit down at all times.
  • The Centre is to have written permission from the parents/caregiver of the child before travelling begins.

Walks

  • Staff Ratios are as per normal ratios, though a higher adult to child ratio may be needed depending on the area/environment you are going into.
  • Parents give permission for walks on the enrolment form

Staff

  • If the excursion is during lunch, lunch will be provided for staff.
  • Staff will not be expected to pay for any excursion costs.
  • Staff will be able to eat their lunch with the children and parents, however they will not be able to take a non-contact break.
  • A possible 15-30 minute unpaid break may be made available on arrival at the Centre.

General

  • A First Aid Kit, a staff member with a First Aid Certificate and any emergency medication is to be taken on any excursions.
  • Any excursion out of the centre will include a qualified staff member.
  • During summer all Children must have a Sun Hat and Sun Block on.
  • A mobile phone is to be taken on any excursions.
  • Every half-hour an appointed staff member should do a head count.
  • At arrival of destination and before leaving a roll should be taken.
  • Those children remaining at the Centre will continue to have an excellent programme and be cared for with regulation ratios (Over two, not greater than 1:10 and Under two, not greater that 1:5).  There will be a qualified staff member at the centre, and someone with a First Aid Certificate.
