Our Centre Philosophy was developed in conjunction with management, staff, and parents. This is what our centre's community believes to be important for children in their early years of learning.

We will endeavour to meet our philosophy in the following ways:
Children will be loved and cared for:
· We will provide an environment where the children’s needs come first and where they feel that they have a place that they can call their own.
· All children will be treated as individuals and their needs will be met accordingly.
· The staff will create a loving and caring environment where children feel secure and happy.
Belonging:
· We will provide an environment where children, parents/whanau and staff have a sense of belonging to Midcity.
· Children, parents/whanau and staff will feel comfortable and aware of the routines, customs and regular events.
To create Lifelong learners:
· Children will have fun and develop a love of learning through our Educational Programme.
· Children’s interests will be respected, valued and incorporated into the programme.
· Children will experience an environment where they discover and develop different ways to be creative and expressive.
· Staff will regularly assess and evaluate the programme to celebrate and support each child’s learning and development. Our programme reflects the principles, strands, goals and learning outcomes from Te Whāriki. This celebrates the uniqueness of each child and for the group as a whole.
· We will encourage children to be inquisitive and to ask why? And we will develop their problem solving skills.
· We will instil in children good morals and strong values to take with them on life’s journey.
Communication:
· Management will provide a place where open communication is encouraged and valued.
· Staff will communicate in an honest and professional manner with management, parents/whanau, and children.
· Parents are encouraged to spend time in the centre whenever possible and to discuss their needs and aspirations for their child.
· We value the individual child’s voice both verbally and non-verbally.
Value and embrace community, whanau, multi-culturalism and Christianity:
· We will endeavour to teach the children and their families our Christian principles and values.
· We will respect the different cultures within our centre. We understand the importance of and the appropriate practise with regard to tikanga Maori.
· Children, parents/whanau will be encouraged to actively contribute to our centre programme.
· Through the implementation of our programme planning, children will be immersed in a culturally enriched environment where empowerment, respect and dignity of children is vital.
Equality:
· All staff, children, parents/whanau will be treated equally irrespective of their gender, age, ethnicity, religious beliefs or background.
